Requesting a Repeat Prescription

You can request your prescription in the following ways:

  • By using our online Repeat Prescription Request form.
  • By using our online services, NHS Wales App/ Ap GIG Cymru If you are not registered to use this service, please Register for NHS Wales App/Ap GIG Cymru.
  • Through your nominated local pharmacy.
  • By hand – Post your repeat slip into the box in the surgery waiting room, or through the letterbox if the surgery is closed.
  • By post
  • By our repeat prescribing system – When you are collecting your prescription, you will be asked by a member of the team if you would like to reorder for next month, you can choose to let the staff member know what items to tick for next month or ask to go through the prescription list to tick the items yourself. The re-order slip will then get processed by our dispensing team who will order the items for collection next month.

Please remember the Doctor will need to see you at regular intervals to review your condition. Please allow a minimum of 48 working hours before collecting repeat prescriptions. We dispense to all patients who live outside the 1 mile radius of the chemist and to those with special dispensation from the NHS Business Service Centre, Swansea.

Collecting Prescriptions

Routine Prescriptions can be collected during our normal surgery hours. Prescriptions for controlled drugs must be collected during the dispensary open hours.

We provide a text reminder service to notify you when your prescription is ready for collection, please ensure we have your mobile number recorded on our records.

Prescription Collection Point

We now have an external prescription collection point for patients to collect their prescription on the afternoons of the closed site. See our opening hours page.

We have a purpose made hatch fitted in the window. The reception team will put your dispensed prescription or prescription form in the hatch tray and you will be able to pick it up out of the hatch from outside of the window.

Hay Medical Centre: the prescription collection point is to the right of the main entrance.

Talgarth Medical Centre: the prescription collection point is the left of the main entrance and around the corner of the building.

Both are clearly signposted with socially distanced queueing markers in situ.

Prescription Queries

You can use the online General Medication Question form to ask the practice a question regarding your medication.

The dispensary staff will deal with all prescription queries either at the desk or over the phone at the allotted time. The staff are instructed by the doctors to query any requests for changes to medications and any early issues.

All medications must be approved by a doctor, the staff are not allowed to add any medication to a patients list and unfortunately they are not allowed to prompt for drug names due to errors. It is therefore very important that you know what you are taking, otherwise the staff will not be in a position to help you.

Uncollected Prescriptions

Any dispensed medication not collected from the medical centre within 8 weeks will be returned to our dispensary stock. Please ensure if you order repeat medication, that you collect it promptly.
