We are using a new online system called Accurx where all requests for a GP appointment will be processed online.  For non-urgent requests you can submit a request for a routine appointment via this online form.   For all urgent on the day requests please continue to contact the practice and our dedicated reception team will ask a set of questions and complete the online form for our healthcare team to review.    Our healthcare team will use the information provided to ensure that you are given the most appropriate care.

Home Visits

Generally patients will be expected to come to the surgery to be seen, unless genuinely house bound or their condition dictates they need a home visit. Patients requiring a home visit will be seen by the emergency doctor for that day, who may ring to discuss the reasons and timing for a visit. It will not be possible to give specific times for visiting as this will depend upon the workload of the day.

Please note requests for home visits must be made before 10:30am, Monday to Friday. Any requests received after 10:30am will be triaged by the emergency doctor.

As we are not an emergency service urgent problems at home require an ambulance. Patients should call 999 for emergencies. We follow the local medical committee’s guidelines on home visiting.

District nurse appointments

To request an appointment for wound care or dressing with a district nurse:

Minor Ailments Pharmacy Scheme

Did you know that 26 of the most common ailments seen by GPs can also be treated by you at home with the help of your local pharmacist? By treating yourself at home with the help of the pharmacist you could save a trip to the surgery and free up time for the GPs to see patients with more serious health problems.

If you think you have:

Indigestion, constipation, diarrhoea, piles, hay fever, head lice, teething, nappy rash, colic, chicken pox, threadworms, sore throat, athlete’s foot, conjunctivitis, mouth ulcers, cold sores, acne, dermatitis, back pain, in growing toenails, vaginal thrush, oral thrush, scabies, intertrigo, ring worm, verruca/warts,

you can visit your local pharmacist.

Pharmacies are readily available with no appointment needed. Under the common ailments service participating pharmacies can offer patients a free NHS consultation and free over the counter medicines for 26 common ailments, offering an alternative to making an appointment with the GP.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Automated arrivals

Automated arrivals allows patients to book themselves in for pre-booked timed clinic appointments via a computer screen located in reception, saving some timely queues at the desk. A step by step guide is available on the touch screen, it is very easy to use.

Please do try out automated arrivals when you visit the Medical Centre in Hay or Talgarth for your next appointment.

Please note that patients booking emergency appointments, which work via a ‘sit and wait service’, will need to book in via reception as normal.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you are unable to attend or no longer require an appointment, please let us know so we can offer the appointment to someone else.

Dental problems

As general practitioners we have no training or qualification to manage any dental problems. Therefore we are not able to treat you for any dental problem. Your dentist can help you with routine check-ups, treatment, and dental emergencies.

If you would like advice on pain relief and antibiotics for a dental infection, you should contact your dentist. To find your nearest dentist, use our NHS 111 dentist search. If you cannot find an NHS dentist and require urgent treatment, please contact your local dental helpline – to find the number for your area visit Dental Services.

Eye problems

Your high street optometrist (optician) are experts in all eye problems and they should be your first point of contact for any eye problem. They can provide a wide range of specialist advice and treatment if you have concerns about your eye health.

Here in Wales we also have a scheme called Eye Health Examination Wales (EHEW) which offers free urgent eye care from your high street optician. You do not need a referral from the GP to access this service. Find out more about Eye Health Examination Wales.
