Your antenatal care is best started as soon as you know you are pregnant. Please ensure you are taking folic acid. Please, contact your midwife by giving them a call straight away on the numbers below. There is no need to see your GP first. Your care will start with a discussion over the phone with a midwife about your personal circumstances and wishes.
Powys midwives
Powys Teaching Health Board provides care for women from the beginning of your pregnancy through to 28 days after birth. The midwife-led service will also support provide care to some women during your labour, or support you to use a neighbouring consultant-led maternity unit in England or Wales. From 3 March 2026 Powys Maternity Service is moving to a new digital maternity system called BadgerNet.
What does this mean for you?
You will be given access to a BadgerNotes app to view your pregnancy record (you will no longer be issued with paper notes). Please complete this form Badger Notes – Self-refer your pregnancy to Powys THB SPA to register for pregnancy care with Powys Teaching Health Board. The community midwives will contact you before you are 10 weeks pregnant, or in the next 1-2 weeks if you are over 10 weeks, to arrange your first appointment. Please ensure that you provide a telephone number that you are happy for the team to call you or text you on. If you have any queries or would prefer to notify by telephone please contact the team via the Switchboard on 01874 622 443 (Mon – Fri 9am-4pm).

Many women are faced with an unplanned pregnancy and find it hard to make a decision about what to do.
Our pregnancy advisory service will help and support you to make a decision whether that be to keep the baby, opt for adoption or an abortion (termination).
